Memory Map into TTQV

  • I know there are several threads in different languages about Memory Map but none of them seem to answer this -

Why do I have to manually calibrate every Memory-Map map if I import it into TTQV? (Or find a calibration file from somebody who has already.) Isn't it possible for TTQV to pick out the in-built calibration data which Memory-Map uses for the same maps?

I love the way TTQV will handle Mapsource data and various other formats without any difficulty at all, but it's a shame it's not so good with Memory-Map.

    Thanks, David

  • Hi David,

no question of shame but rather a question of "how to read the georeferencing
information" included with these maps. If you enlighten us how to do that,
we will be glad to help out here ;-)

  • Hi Jockel,

After reading your post I've read around a bit and I didn't realise the Memory-Map data was encrypted. Sorry

If I work it out I'll let you know!

Meanwhile, if TTQV users create their own .cal files for Memory-Map data, could those .cal files be shared on the TTQV website, or would this just cause copyright issues? I've just calibrated some of the maps and aerial photos I use, which is quite time-consuming, and it would be nice to be able to share the calibration files with other users, to save them having to do the same thing.

  • FYI There is a python file on emule called something like decode qct calibration which looks like it might have the info needed to get the calibration data from Memory Map qct files.

It decodes 40 8-byte (double-precision) floating point numbers stored at offset 60hex in the qct file. These are four sets each of ten coefficients.

These sets are coefficients for four conversion equations::
    1. xy to latitude
    2. xy to longitude
    3. lat/lon to x
    4. lat/lon to y

Each set is the coefficients in an equation like:
    c0+c1*a+c2*b+c3*a*a+c4*a*b+c5*b*b+c6*a*a*a+c7*a*a*b+c8*a*b*b+c9*b*b*b

Substitute into a and b as follows:
x and y to latitude or longitude: x and y
lat and lon to x or y: lat and lon

The program as it stands prints the lat/lon of the corners of the map, and puts these through the reverse conversion back to pixel coordinates as a check.

  • Hi,

I install TTQV Light V4.0.114 and try to import memory map V5
That's ok for French 250k map but doesn't work for ign 25 map

If i understand they calibration information file is encrypted right ?

Is a software for convert memory map calibration files to TTQV ?

Sorry for my bad english ... I'm french

    Thanks for your answer

    Bertrand

  • Hi Bertrand,

if I remember right, with MemMap V5 there was introduced crypting of the
entire map, this is then a completely unreadable format for TTQV. This
was supposed to start with V5, if all V5 maps are crypted, I don´t know.
If the map is not crypted, you will be able to import the map and the map
will display in TTQV. If the map is crypted, the map will probably not be
    readable at all by TTQV!

In case you imported your maps prior to TTQV4.0.114 into TTQV-Xplorer,
then, delete the map from TTQV-Xplorer, compress the TTQV databases,
reimport the *.qct file. Reason: Readibilty of calibration is checked on import
and the previous TTQV versions were unable to read that. Updating TTVQ
does not fix a "noncalibrated import"!

No problem, thank you for trying! In case it get´s problematic, use your
homelanguage, the I will start trying ;-)

  • HGi Jockel, thanks for your quick answer

I'm surprise Touratech sale memory map V5 on the webshop, i suppose if they sale this product i was compatible with TTQV.
Another point is that the user have no other choice for ign 1/25000 topo map, only a old version of carto explorer or Garmin Gps topo Right ?

    Thanks

    Bertrand

  • After a new check import from memory map V5 Working

I dont now why i have before a error message :?:

i check tomorow with another Memory map and let you now if its ok

    Thanks

    Bertrand

  • Hi,

as I said, V5 !may! be crypted completely and unreadable, but this is no
    !must! fpr V5 memmap products!
