Calibrating Turkey scanned maps

  • Hallo to all,

I have scanned with an A0 color scanner some maps.

One of it i need for my next travel is an IGN Turkey maps 1:750.000

I want to use it with TTQV but i can't calibrate it ... :-(

The map i have scanned is this http://www.ign.fr/rubrique.asp?rbr_id=1546&GRA_ID=WATUR

On the maps i have lat-lon but i cant see other data ... there is somebody who has already calibrate this kind of map ?

There also some website where we can share this maps ?

    Tnx

    Sandro

  • Hi Sandro,

you can try these parameters with a calibration in projection mode:

    map datum: ED50
    ellipsoid: Hayford 1924
    map projection: Lambert Conformal Conic
    standard parallels: 38°N and 41°N
    reference longitude: 35°E

Please don't be too optimistic about the results. If you can understand Turkish please refer to http://www.hgk.mil.tr/ to find out more.

  • hallo ... i will try with your suggestion ... in this time i have found some more information and the projection are similar to an polar-azymuthal equatorial (equidistance) ... sorry for traslation

I try to calibrate like this , but i i make a comparison with google earth and i have 3-4 km shift to north ... but i presume it's ok whit this kind of maps .....

it's a pity for the copyright ... because it's will be nice to have some good calibrated maps.....

And there is some good shops for digital maps other than Touratech ?

    Tnx again

    Sandro

  • It's look better :-)

but i cant find where to put the ellipsoid ...... :-(

but i cant find where to put the ellipsoid ...... :-(

Sorry fo the mismatch of ellipsoid names. Polarys meant the "International 1924" ellipsoid. This ellipsoid is also named as Hayford ellipsoid. John Fillmore Hayford has developed this ellipsoid. TTQV using only the correct name "International 1924".

The ellipsoid is an integral part of the map datum, simply set map datum to
some common values like WGS84 oer ED50 and test using GE.

Beside that, why bothering with a projection calibration here. Simply
calibrate using "lat/lon grid 3x3" and WGS84 or ED50. Maybe this does the trick.
