Hello,
I am considering the purchase of the new garmin 18 usb GPS-mouse, but I see on garmin technical spec that this type of sensor has a garmin proprietary USB protocol and data format. I wonder if TTQV 3.xx support this type of interface...
Thanks for your advice

Hi,
TTQV3 supports the direct Garmin USB protocol. But today I had a
message from our Progi, that a customer experienced a kind of "shutoff"
of this type of Garmin mouse after some minutes of online mode.
We do not know whether this is a problem of the customers hardware
or configuration (sleep mode, timeout, screensaver....) or a bug in TTQV3.
Generally it should work properly. But, why purchase such a mouse? I would not do it, as the choice of available
software that way is reduced to a few products that support this protocol
at the moment. I think, for now I would preferr one of these serial mice,
which come with an integrated USB serial converter and can be attached to
the USB port directly. They are then compatible with all kind of software. On the other hand, I certainly like to have an other tester/customer to
report about the "garmin 18" USB mouse whether it works properly
or not. It is up to you. -
I recently upgraded from TTQV 2.5 to 3 in order to connect to my Garmin Quest which only has USB. I find that TTQV 3 shuts down with an error message within about 1 minute of going on-line with the Quest. If I set the Quest to operate "indoors" and set TTQV Garmin setup in "Simulator", TTQV does not crash, but as soon as I try live tracking it crashes. Any suggestions?

Hi,
what version of ttqv do you use ?
Hello
TTQV 3.0.96
The system is a Compaq Armada 384 megs ram running on Windows 2000, though I have also installed on Windows XP SP2 laptop with 768 megs ram to see if the operating system/memory will make a difference. Same problem. TTQV and the Garmin Quest establish contact, find the map and disply the location. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, a Windows error message pops up saying that an unexpected error has occured and the software will be shut down. TTQV is then shut down completely.

Tom
Thank you. Hope you will have a solution before I go away mid-December as I enjoy having TTQV running live in my vehicle on my travels. I am hoping to get rid of my Garmin 3+, but cannot do so until this problem is solved.

hmm...
just a completely private (non TOURATECH) remark of mine:
how about getting rid of the "18 usb GPS-mouse" and getting a cheaper,
regular NMEA mouse, which will work with every software without taking the
hassle of requiring superfluous proprietary Garmin protocolls?I understand the need of USB for mapping devices, quick upload/download
of maps or tracks. But for a GPS mouse ? -

Denis, did you try 3.0.101, which should fix the problem?

Hi Tom,
Where do I find 3.0.102 to download?

I have downloaded 3.0.102.
Will install and see what happens
Thanks

I installed 3.0.102 and it has solved the problem. Quest and TTQV are talking, no more crashing. Thank you very much. I presume 3.0.102 is a "beta" version and in due course it will be released officially. I will keep an eye on the website and download again when it appears as the latest version of TTQV.
Best wishes

Hi,
Zitat von "Denys Gilfillan"...I presume 3.0.102 is a "beta" version...
this is correct !
We call it "development version", just in case you stumble across this
expression here. -
Hello,
I took your advice and bought a GPS-Mouse with USB connector (a Globalstar BU-303 with SirfStar II chipset). The computer see it as the same USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM4) that I used to connect my old Garmin GPS12 with an adapter by Prolific, the driver provided with the GPS-Mouse is in fact the same of the adapter (curiously an older version). The problem is that the program displays correctly the position and marks the track, but the direction arrow doesn't appear and the time displayed switch between two values, one of which is correct .
This happens with both GPS receivers, so I think the problem is in the latest versions of QV3.0 . I used the GPS12 with the very first release of QV3.0 without problems with the same hardware and settings of the program. I updated QV regularly to the latest (now 3.0.105) version and WinXP to Service Pack 2. What could you suggest to fix this bug? -
Hi gipo,
"time switching" is a bug already reported, sorry, will be fixed quickly.
But I am not certain about the arrow problem. Testing here using
different receivers, the arrow appears fine and turns as it should.Possible fixes:
- reset TTQV by going "options, settings, general.."reset ttqv" (must read alike), then retry
or
- go options, marks, "recent positions" and try to set "arrow" as the symbol
for online mode. This setting is for new tracks only. Possibly, if TTQV
appends to an existing track when logging, you have to set this different
marker as a "style" for the existing track. I preferr this vectorial symbol
"arrow" anyway
or
- rerun a new complete setup of TTQV right over your existing installation,
this should not harm your existing data, but I recommend to do a backup. -
Hi Jockel, the second proposed solution seems to work. I set 'arrow' for Online Mode and an empty arrow appears, turning as it should. It's not the usual QV arrow but a simple triangle that can be sized up or down.
This can be enough, but I will try to run a new setup from the CD
when a new update will be available. Pls let me know if you have other suggestions
Thanks

Hi Gipo,
this is 3.0.110 development version. It is supposed to fix the bug with
the "jumping time" problem:
http://www.ttqv2.de/files9/qv3upd_110.exeAbout the missing arrow:
maybe the bitmap file in use for that is missing, I think running a TTQV
complete setup should fix that problem.
Beside that, it may be a problem with your graphics card, maybe updating or
simply reinstalling your graphics card driver may halp here. -
Hi Jockel,
all OK and running!
I have installed the latest version and the time is now correct. It also seems that all files .bmp in QV3.0 'symbols' folder vanished 8-O . I simply copied the arrow1 file from the old 2.5 version and all went right.
Thank you again for your advice!

Hi gipo,
strange thing with these disappearing arrow file. Maybe rerun the latest
complete setup file (ttqv3.0.105) plus aupdate, simply to make certain,
that there are no other files missing.
