magnetic grid

  • Hi. Another new user with a (possibly) stupid question or two.
    1. How can I merge 2 adjacent maps for the purpose of printing a section of a map.
    2. I would like to print a map with a magnetic grid (I still use a compass while kayaking, and it makes taking bearings easier). How do I do it

  • Hello,

you can not join a map from within TTQV, so:
    a) open the maps in whatever painting Software, join them, save them,
calibrate them, make TTQV show the grid, print/export the portion you
need. Keep in mind: joining maps that belong to different UTM or MTM
zones will produce errors for they belong to projection zones with
different central meridians when those maps were created by NRCAN.

    b) you can not print a map with magnetic grid in TTQV.
Generally: a magnetic grid is valid only for a limited time and may vary
for different spots on the same map. Open the map in TTQV, set the
cursor to "Magnetic", get the reading for the magnetic declination of the
visited area, set it as an info when exporting/printing the map. Note:
usually, as those maps are of some age, the magnetic declination value
printed on the map is outdated. The value given from TTQV is more
accurate for the present time and may vary by several degrees.
