TTQV does not com with GPS or Palm

  • I use Gpilots with my Geko201 to store some daily treks.
Until some days ago the comm was OK
    - from GPS to Palm,
    - from GPS to TTQV
    - from Palm to TTQV.
Now GPS to Palm is OK, but TTQV does not accept anything from the Palm or GPS.
The error msg with the GPS is "no response from Garmin on COM3 at 9600 bauds"
The error msg with the Palm is "error in Garmin data transfer, error code 0, no response from device"
However the Palm and the PC communicate allright in HotSync, so COM3 works.
The setting in TTQV is COM3, 9600bauds, Garmin-Garmin.

Any clue as to where to look for a solution?
    Thanks,
    Pierre

  • I have tried all modes: closing Hotsync, calling TTQV from boot when there is no Hotsync preloaded.
    The messages are indeed different:
If Hotsync is open the msg is that the COM port cannot be opened.
If Hotsync is disabled but the Palm is not in Host Mode the msg is:
    "No response ...
If Hotsync is disabled and Host Mode set on Palm the msg is:
"Error in Garmin data transfer, Error code 0, No response from device".
Apparently COM3 is engaged with the Palm since if I try then to Hotsync it does not succeed. Even if I close TTQV, which should free the port, the HotSync does not succeed until I reboot.
So the port appears connected, and badly connected, probably in some kind of loop.
Any further clue would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Pierre

  • Hi,
    - what version of TTQV do you use exactly ?
    - does TTQV work directly with the GPS ?

  • Good morning,

Jockel: I use v80. Can I reinstall v80 on top of v80 just in case TTQV became corrupt? Or shall I uninstall v80 first.
Yes TTQV works directly with the GPS, and GPilotS is supposed to emulate the Garmin GPS, and it worked with TTQV only a few days ago.

Dietmar: I have tried all the other emulations, but the ETREX emulation worked before, so ...

  • Hi Pierre,

if TTQV works with the GPS and TTQV does not work with GpilotS, I do
not think, that the problem has to do with installation of TTQV.
But check, if TTQV works with the GPS in Garmin/Garmin mode, as this is
something completely different then NMEA !

Find here, how to do a clean TTQV installation:

yes, generally you can simply run a complete installation over the existing
one. But you should restart your computer and close all software running in
    background before doing that.

  • Hi Jockel,
I reinstalled from CD after uninstall and all worked well.
Then I upgraded to v80 and I got the same problem as before.
I note that v80 has some changes on Palm Hotsync PW3. Maybe this change distubed other Palm access protocols.
How do I revert to 79?
    Thanks,
    Pierre

....How do I revert to 79?

    Hi Pierre,
to revert to 79, simply install from CD again, then delete ttqv3a.ini and
start TTQV. But maybe updating to 3.0.88 development version does the trick
    also, http://www.ttqv2.de/files9/qv3upd_88.exe

  • Hi Jockel,

Unfortunately 88 does not work either. I wished Progie looked at the code he changed from 79 to 80.

I would like two run two versions of TTQV. One which works with the Palm and the latest, until that one works with the Palm. Would that create any confusion in the programs? I realize I need to synchronize the QU files from one directory to the other so that each appli has access to the complete set of maps, tracks, etc.

Is that all I need to do?

    Regards,

    Pierre

  • Hi Jockel.
    Reinstalled from CD after uninstall.
    1) can't find Canada.od2, not that I care much, but it says that for each installation.
    2) Then on calling TTQV3 I get a msg:
"QV Error: 3307, Sdb_Datums_Read, the number of columns in the two selected tables queries of a union query don't match"
If I hit OK,( what to do next anyway?) I get another msg:
    3) Can't find datum: WGS84 which is stored in this map. Please go to calibration window and select a datum for the list."
No need to say that I am given a clue as to which "this map" is.
The program then opens, and as soon as I try to enlarge the window it shuts off.
    Confused !!!

  • Jockel,

I have a CD with v32 on it I cannot figure out how erasing the ini file will promote the appli to v79. Else, rather than v79 I would rather chose a promotion to v999 ;-).

Anyway I have reinstalled once more after
    uninstall
AND erasing the TTQV3 folder, which uninstall does not do.
AND not installing the America, canada.od2, just in case.
And now I do not get the error msgs.
And the comm works with the Palm.
Still I would like to have access on a separate installation folder to v79 (or 999)

    Pierre

  • Hi,

    http://www.ttqv2.de/files9/qv3upd_79.exe
will give you the 79 update.
Restart your computer prior to doing this update and close
all software running in backgroud (virusscanners...) when installing.
test, restsart....install 80...test and please report:

Progi wants to know for sure:
    - gpilots works with 79
    - gpilots does not work if you update to 80?

  • To be honest I do not know which version I had before 80. I said 79, but I am not sure. I update usually a couple of weeks after the announcement in case there are a few bugs still hanging.

Anyway 79 fails as well. I may have had 77 or 78. Can you give me access to those and I will test them as well.

    Thanks,
    Pierre

  • Thanks Jockel,
BTW I installed 70 over 88 without first uninstalling 88. Sounds a bit heretic, but it worked.
Hope Progi finds what he changed.
